“The nomination of Kash Patel to serve as Director of the FBI comes to the Senate against the backdrop of recent personnel actions at the Department of Justice, including the resignations of several career federal prosecutors who felt they were being instructed to act in a manner inconsistent with their ethical obligations,” Collins said.
She also raised concerns over a questionnaire sent to thousands of FBI employees regarding their involvement in certain cases. However, she failed to explain why this should disqualify Patel from the role.
Collins’ real issue? Patel’s refusal to bow to the deep state. She cited his criticism of the FBI as proof that he is unfit to lead the agency—effectively saying only those who blindly support the bureaucracy should be in charge.
“In this context, there is a compelling need for an FBI Director who is decidedly apolitical. While Mr. Patel has had 16 years of dedicated public service, his time over the past four years has been characterized by high profile and aggressive political activity. Mr. Patel has made numerous politically charged statements in his book and elsewhere discrediting the work of the FBI, the very institution he has been nominated to lead,” Collins stated.
Of course, Collins had no issue supporting FBI leadership under Joe Biden—despite their blatant political targeting of conservatives, from Trump allies to everyday Americans.
The Maine senator continued her reasoning, insisting that Patel’s profile in recent years has made him unfit for the position.
“While I strongly support efforts to ensure all federal employees perform their responsibilities ethically and in accordance with the law, Mr. Patel’s recent political profile undermines his ability to serve in the apolitical role of Director of the FBI,” she claimed.

In reality, Collins has no problem confirming radical left-wing nominees, even those who openly use their positions to push Democrat agendas. But when a Trump-aligned nominee comes forward, suddenly she finds her “principles.”
“Therefore, I will vote against his nomination,” Collins concluded.
Collins has built a career on betraying conservatives. She brags about working with Democrats and routinely votes to confirm Biden’s most extreme picks. Her opposition to Patel is just another example of her loyalty to the establishment over the American people.
With the Senate set to vote, it remains to be seen whether Republicans will rally behind Patel—or whether other so-called conservatives will follow Collins’ lead and hand another victory to the deep state.
