However, Trump’s insistence on the acquisition sent shockwaves through Denmark’s leadership. According to European officials, the phone call left the Danish government in “crisis mode,” with some reporting that they were “utterly freaked out” by the President’s determination.
While Trump’s strategy faced international resistance, it was a Republican senator who shocked conservatives by siding with Denmark against U.S. interests. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), a notorious RINO, aligned herself with Danish lawmaker Aaja Chemnitz in publicly opposing Trump’s efforts.
In a joint statement, Murkowski and Chemnitz declared, “Greenland is open for business, but not for sale.” Chemnitz, a member of the socialist Community of People party, represents Greenland in Denmark’s parliament.
Murkowski’s betrayal didn’t stop there. She and Chemnitz took a direct shot at Trump’s approach, stating, “Of course a businessman turned president would be interested. But Greenland is not for sale… The United States, like Denmark, should recognize that the future will be defined by partnership, not ownership.”
This brazen move by Murkowski is just the latest in a series of actions she has taken to undermine Trump and his America First agenda.
Trump has repeatedly warned about the growing interest of China and Russia in the Arctic, emphasizing that Greenland’s untapped natural resources—including oil and natural gas—make it a critical asset in the global power struggle. Denmark, in an attempt to assert control over the island, announced it would be increasing defense spending in Greenland. Trump dismissed the effort as laughable.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump didn’t hold back: “I do believe Greenland, we’ll get—because it really has to do with freedom of the world. It has nothing to do with the United States, other than we’re the one that can provide the freedom. They [Denmark] can’t. They put two dog sleds there two weeks ago. They thought that was protection.”

Denmark’s so-called defense initiative involved deploying sled dog teams to Greenland, a move Trump rightfully mocked as inadequate given the region’s strategic importance.
Even as she sided with Denmark, Murkowski inadvertently acknowledged that Trump was correct about Greenland’s strategic significance. In the joint statement with Chemnitz, she admitted, “The appeal of Greenland is easy to understand. It is strategically located for defense, shipping, and more. It is also a storehouse for all sorts of minerals, the building blocks of society that will determine who leads—and controls—the industries of the future.”
Despite recognizing Greenland’s value, Murkowski chose to stand with a foreign nation over a U.S. president who prioritized American strength and security.
Murkowski has a long history of undermining Trump and his policies in Congress. From voting against key America First initiatives to aligning with Democrats on critical issues, her latest move is just another example of her willingness to put globalist interests ahead of American sovereignty.
Now, by actively working with Denmark to block Trump’s strategic vision, Murkowski has crossed a new line. Her decision to stand with a foreign government against the former President’s policy is nothing short of a betrayal—not just of Trump, but of the American people who believe in putting the nation’s interests first.
