A political storm is tearing through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Several high-level officials have abruptly resigned, furious over Dr. Retsef Levi’s leadership of the agency’s COVID-19 vaccine workgroup. But now, Levi is breaking his silence and telling the public exactly what happened behind closed doors.
Just last week, the CDC placed Levi—an outspoken critic of mRNA shots—at the head of its influential vaccine advisory workgroup. His appointment immediately rattled the public health establishment. Levi has long argued that Pfizer’s and Moderna’s mRNA products pose serious risks, particularly for younger children, and has called for their removal from the market altogether.
The resignations began soon after. One of the most notable came from Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, President Biden’s flamboyant appointee best known for his “monkeypox czar” role and public embrace of BDSM culture. In a scorching resignation letter posted on X, Daskalakis claimed his position was “untenable” and declared he could no longer “serve in an organization that is not afforded the opportunity to discuss decisions of scientific and public health importance.”
