What began as a standard Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Manhattan quickly spiraled out of control. Kartalija, covering the scene near Canal Street, described the atmosphere as a “war zone” after officers targeted street vendors suspected of selling counterfeit goods.
But the scene that unfolded wasn’t spontaneous outrage—it was carefully coordinated.
“People are masked up, they’re not showing their faces. Everyone has a cell phone out. They’re videoing it and sending it back,” Kartalija reported live.
That one observation exposed the first rule of these manufactured protests: hide your identity while ensuring every confrontation is caught on camera and goes viral.
Within minutes, dozens of masked protesters appeared—armed with pre-made signs, cell phones, and an obvious plan. This wasn’t local New Yorkers rushing to defend neighborhood vendors. It was an organized swarm, rehearsed and ready for confrontation.
