In a bold move that’s sending shockwaves through the political establishment, Mississippi has joined the elite ranks of states with no personal income tax. Governor Tate Reeves didn’t just sign a bill—he dropped a legislative bombshell by putting pen to paper on House Bill 1, better known as the “Build Up Mississippi Act.” This isn’t just a tax cut—it’s a full-blown economic revolution.
“I am proud to sign into law a complete elimination of the individual income tax in the state of Mississippi,” Governor Tate Reeves (R-MS) declared. “Let me say that again: Mississippi will no longer tax the work, the earnings, or the ambition of its people.”
Starting now, the Magnolia State will begin phasing out its 4.4% income tax, shaving it down to 3% by 2030. The plan kicks off in 2026 with 0.25% annual cuts. And if the state’s revenues keep climbing? That rate doesn’t just drop—it disappears. Poof. Gone.
