A quiet Indiana neighborhood was shattered by gunfire Sunday afternoon after a sitting judge and his wife were ambushed outside their own home in what authorities are calling a targeted and deeply troubling attack. The shooting has triggered a massive investigation spanning multiple jurisdictions and involving federal law enforcement.
According to police, Tippecanoe Superior Court Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, were both wounded when shots rang out at their residence on Mill Pond Lane in Lafayette around 2:15 p.m. Investigators say the judge was struck in the arm, while his wife suffered a gunshot wound to the hip.
Shell casings were recovered at the scene, signaling the deliberate nature of the assault. Emergency responders rushed the couple to receive medical treatment, and officials later confirmed that both victims are in stable condition.
