A record-breaking 52% of registered voters say they or a household member possess a gun, according to a new nationwide poll issued on Tuesday. Even while all parties are affected by the increase, this is still a strongly politicized tendency. A “stunning” ten percent rise in gun ownership over the past 10 years, with a six percent increase since 2019, is revealed by the NBC News/Wall Street Journal study.
Speaking on behalf of Republican and Democratic pollsters, respectively, Micah Roberts of Public Opinion Strategies, which conducted the survey in conjunction with Hart Research, stated, “In the last ten years, we’ve grown [10 points] in gun ownership. That’s a very stunning number.”

“By and large, things don’t change that dramatically that quickly when it comes to something as fundamental as whether you own a gun.”
Political affiliation still has a big impact on gun ownership; the vast majority of owners identify as Republicans or Independents. 45% of Independents and 41% of Democrats own a firearm in their home, compared to a startling 66% of Republicans.
According to recent research, there is a noteworthy trend among Black voters: an astounding 41% of them now keep weapons in their homes. This startling 17-point increase in only four years illustrates a notable change in gun ownership. Black and Latino voters are catching up, even though White people continue to have a greater inclination to own firearms.
The Reload’s founder, Stephen Gutowski, noted via X, “This poll shows a massive increase in gun ownership among voters. That’s in line with the reports we’ve seen about new buyers driving the 2020 sales surge, but this is the first major national poll to show such a big change.”
With a narrow margin of error of only +/-3.1%, a new NBC survey shows opinions from 1,000 registered voters.
Both a recent NBC survey and a November 2023 Harvard/Harris poll reveal that an astounding 60% of Americans think that having a gun is essential for self-defense. Surprisingly, this opinion is bipartisan, with the majority of Republicans (77%) agreeing, as well as Independents (56%), Democrats (54%), and Independents (56%).
Breitbart’s AWR Hawkins commented on the event, stating, “Super bad news for leftists. This poll shows strong support for gun ownership among voters registered as Independents.”
