Gun Rights Organization Launches Campaign for Norman
According to a 24-hour FEC filing submitted on July 31, the National Association for Gun Rights’ Gun Rights America PAC reported multiple independent expenditures supporting Norman’s Senate campaign.
The filing outlines three separate voter-contact efforts, including text messaging, phone banking, and email outreach designed to mobilize Republican primary voters during the compressed campaign schedule leading up to the August 11 election.
With only days remaining before ballots are cast, the organization has already begun contacting voters across South Carolina on Norman’s behalf.
The investment comes as Republicans prepare to choose their nominee for the November general election following the death of Senator Lindsey Graham.
NAGR Praises Norman’s Record
National Association for Gun Rights President Dudley Brown highlighted the endorsement in an email to supporters Friday, arguing that Norman’s voting history makes him one of the strongest Second Amendment advocates currently serving in Congress.
Brown wrote:
“Ralph Norman has a 100% pro-gun voting record. Not “mostly.” Not “mostly, except when it’s politically convenient.”

The organization also promoted its endorsement on X with a post featuring Norman alongside NAGR Vice President Ryan Flugaur, emphasizing its commitment to electing lawmakers it considers uncompromising defenders of gun rights.
Longtime Influence in South Carolina
The National Association for Gun Rights has developed a reputation as a more hardline alternative to the NRA and has built a significant grassroots presence in South Carolina.
During the debate over constitutional carry legislation in 2024, NAGR and its Palmetto Gun Rights affiliate aggressively lobbied lawmakers, encouraging members to pressure legislators they believed were weakening the proposal.
Those efforts culminated in Governor Henry McMaster signing constitutional carry legislation into law on March 7, 2024, following months of intense activism by gun-rights advocates.
The latest endorsement suggests the organization believes Norman is the candidate best positioned to continue advancing those priorities in the U.S. Senate.
Norman’s Gun Rights Credentials Stretch Back Years
Norman’s relationship with Second Amendment voters did not begin with this Senate campaign.
One of his most widely discussed moments came in 2018 during a “Coffee with Constituents” event at a Rock Hill diner, when he reportedly placed his personal .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver on the table while speaking with attendees.
Afterward, Norman defended his actions by telling reporters:
“I’m not going to be a Gabby Giffords.”
The remark referenced the 2011 assassination attempt against former Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords.
While the incident generated sharp criticism from liberal media outlets, many South Carolina conservatives viewed it as another example of Norman refusing to retreat from his support for firearm ownership.
Supporters argue that his congressional voting record reinforces that image, pointing to years of consistently backing legislation expanding gun rights.
Conservative Support Continues to Grow
Norman’s campaign has assembled a lengthy list of endorsements from prominent conservatives in Washington and across the country.
Among those backing his Senate bid are Senators Rick Scott and Mike Lee, former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and Turning Point USA.
Scott praised Norman’s conservative record when announcing his endorsement, saying:
“Ralph is a conservative fighter.”
Scott also credited Norman for repeatedly supporting the SAVE America Act and advancing President Donald Trump’s legislative priorities in Congress.
South Carolina State Representative Jordan Pace similarly cited Norman’s consistently high ratings from organizations including Turning Point USA, Club for Growth, and CPAC as evidence of his conservative credentials.
Darline Graham Faces Growing Skepticism
Norman’s latest endorsement arrives as criticism continues to build around Darline Graham’s Senate campaign.
Following Senator Lindsey Graham’s death, Governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham’s sister, Darline Graham, to temporarily fill the seat despite her never having held elected office.
That appointment immediately sparked frustration among many Republican activists who argued the nomination appeared driven more by family connections than by an established conservative record.
One of Graham’s Republican opponents, Mark Lynch, captured that frustration by declaring:
“We’re not going to have a coronation in this state.”
Lynch added that Republican voters should decide the race based on qualifications rather than a well-known last name.
Many grassroots conservatives have echoed similar concerns, arguing they want a candidate with years of proven conservative votes rather than someone entering politics for the first time.
A Crowded Race Enters Its Final Days
Polling has placed Norman at the front of the crowded Republican field with approximately 22 percent support, though multiple conservative candidates remain in the race.
With nine Republicans competing for the nomination, outside groups believe direct voter contact could play a decisive role in determining who advances to the November election.
The National Association for Gun Rights appears determined to ensure Republican voters hear Norman’s record before they cast their ballots.
As the special primary approaches, the race is shaping up as more than a contest over endorsements—it has become a referendum on whether South Carolina Republicans prefer an established conservative voting record or a familiar political name.
