In a stunning political twist that’s turning heads across the nation, Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani has officially secured the Democratic nomination for mayor of New York City—handily defeating scandal-scarred former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo, who once ruled Albany as a powerbroker, was attempting to relaunch his political career after being forced to resign following numerous allegations of sexual misconduct. But in a move that shocked his dwindling base of supporters, the former governor conceded before the ranked-choice vote had even been finalized.
“Tonight is his night. He deserved it. He won,” Cuomo admitted—acknowledging the growing grassroots surge behind the far-left insurgent candidate.
