Radical AG Says Trump Pardon “Won’t Work”

President Donald Trump set off another political firestorm on Thursday after issuing a full presidential pardon to Tina Peters, a Gold Star mother and former Mesa County Clerk who has become a symbol of the fight over election integrity following the 2020 presidential election.

Peters, 69, has been serving a nine-year sentence in a Colorado state prison stemming from state charges related to her efforts to investigate voting systems after the highly contested 2020 election. Supporters say her prosecution was never about justice but about sending a warning to anyone who dares question the official election narrative.

Despite her age, declining health, and status as a Gold Star mother, Peters has received no leniency from Colorado authorities. Just last week, a magistrate judge dismissed her habeas corpus petition seeking early release, leaving her locked behind bars while violent offenders across the country continue to walk free.

Trump announced the pardon on Truth Social, making clear he views Peters as a political prisoner targeted by Democrats for her beliefs.
