In the midst of New Orleans grappling with the aftermath of a horrific terror attack, the city has been struck by another heartbreaking tragedy. Orleans Parish Assistant District Attorney Ian Kersting was found dead Saturday night in an apparent suicide, just days after the city was rocked by violence.
Kersting, 34, was discovered around 9 p.m. inside the District Attorney’s office at 619 South White Street. Authorities confirmed the cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

The District Attorney’s office released a somber statement addressing the loss:
“The Orleans Parish DA’s Office family suffered a terrible tragedy Saturday night. Assistant District Attorney Ian Kersting was a beloved member of our office, and we send our love and deepest condolences to his family. It’s important that we support each other right now, and we ask the media respect the privacy of the individuals impacted.”
