An incident involving Ohio Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton at the Canfield Fair quickly became a national political story Sunday. But as more information emerged from local law enforcement, the official account offered important details that were not included in the campaign’s initial description.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the Mahoning County Democratic Party tent, where Acton was speaking to attendees. According to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Patrick Havas of Canfield entered the tent while recording the event with his cellphone and began pushing his way through the crowd.
Acton’s campaign issued a statement shortly after the incident that characterized the episode in significantly more alarming terms.
