Former Vice President Mike Pence has publicly criticized the recent plea agreement reached between Julian Assange and the Justice Department, which resulted in Assange’s release from prison. Assange had previously been detained in the UK for over five years following an extended asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. The plea deal now allows him to return to Australia, his country of origin.
Expressing his discontent on the X social media platform, Pence was unequivocal in his stance that Assange deserved a harsher penalty. “Julian Assange endangered the lives of our troops in a time of war and should have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he asserted.

Pence further articulated his view that the Biden administration’s decision represents a failure of justice and is disrespectful to the sacrifices made by American military personnel and their families. “The Biden administration’s plea deal with Assange is a miscarriage of justice and dishonors the service and sacrifice of the men and women of our Armed Forces and their families.”
