Their story was later brought to the big screen in the film 13 Hours, which portrayed the courage of those on the ground and the deadly consequences of inaction from Washington.
In the days that followed the attack, the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton repeatedly blamed the violence on a supposed protest sparked by a YouTube video that allegedly offended Muslims. That narrative quickly unraveled, but it was maintained publicly even as the bodies of the fallen Americans were returned home in flag-draped caskets. For many families and Americans watching at home, the explanation felt like a political cover story rather than the truth.
On Friday, Attorney General Bondi announced that justice has finally taken a significant step forward.
According to Bondi, the FBI has captured and extradited Zubayr Al-Bakoush, one of the key suspects tied to the Benghazi terror attack. The suspect was transported to the United States and is now in federal custody to face charges related to the assault on the American compound.
During her remarks, Bondi spoke emotionally about the victims and the long pursuit of accountability.

“On September 11th, 2012, Americans watched horrified as our embassy in Bengasi came under a vicious terror attack. We lost four American lives that day: Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith with the State Department, and two CIA contractors, Glenn Dordy and Tyrone Woods. We have never forgotten those heroes, and we have never stopped seeking justice for that crime against our nation. In fact, from day one, Cash and Dan would sit in meetings and say, We’re going to get them, and they did. Today, I’m proud to announce that the FBI has arrested one of the key participants behind the Bengasi attack. Zubar Albaqash landed at Andrews Air Force Base at 03: 00 AM this morning. He is in our custody. He was greeted by Director Director Patel and US attorney Jeanine Piero.”
Bondi’s announcement marks a rare moment of accountability in a case that many Americans believed had been quietly abandoned. For years, critics accused federal authorities of dragging their feet or protecting political figures rather than aggressively pursuing those responsible for the murders.
While the arrest does not undo the failures that led to Benghazi, it sends a powerful message that time does not erase responsibility. Terrorists who target Americans may evade justice for years, but they are not forgotten.
