Rep. Ilhan Omar’s former husband has made a personal revelation that is drawing renewed attention to one of the most disputed chapters of the Minnesota Democrat’s past.
Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, who married Omar in 2009, has publicly described himself as gay in an academic research paper.
The disclosure comes after years of accusations concerning the former couple’s relationship, including claims that their marriage was connected to an immigration arrangement.
