Barack Obama just couldn’t help himself. On Tuesday, the former president jumped into the red-hot battle over Texas redistricting — and let’s just say, his timing couldn’t have been worse.
President Trump recently called on Texas Governor Greg Abbott and state lawmakers to strengthen Republican chances in the 2026 midterms by redrawing district maps. In a move that electrified conservatives across the state, Texas Republicans responded with a bold plan: five new GOP congressional seats. The effort was full steam ahead, until Democrats did what they do best — run.
As soon as the new district map passed through a House panel, Democrats pulled a stunt straight out of the D.C. playbook. Instead of showing up and doing their jobs, they fled Texas. Literally. Hoping to block the vote, these lawmakers bolted to blue strongholds like Illinois and New York to stall the process.
And who came charging in to offer cover for this political theater? None other than Barack Obama himself.
