A Washington, D.C. federal judge appointed by Barack Obama has once again stepped in to protect illegal immigrants—this time issuing a late-night order that blocks the Trump administration from carrying out warrantless immigration arrests in the nation’s capital. The ruling dropped Tuesday evening and was met with immediate outrage from supporters of law and order.
U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell, who has a long history of siding with Democrat-aligned causes, handed down a preliminary injunction preventing federal officers from detaining illegal immigrants without first proving they pose an immediate escape threat. In other words, the Biden-era playbook of endless protections for unlawful entrants is now being resurrected in the middle of Trump’s push to restore order.
In her ruling, Howell took the extraordinary step of scolding the President directly, lecturing him over his attempt to stop Washington, D.C. from acting as a magnet for illegal aliens. She wrote, “This case arises in the wake of a publicly declared emergency in our Nation’s Capital explained by the current president, in part, to ensure that ‘[t]his city will no longer be a sanctuary for illegal alien criminals,’” effectively chastising Trump for daring to enforce immigration laws.
