Former acting ICE Director Tom Homan is pointing to a moment from the Obama administration that he says exposes what he views as a dramatic shift in Democratic messaging on immigration enforcement.
Appearing on Katie Miller’s podcast, Homan recalled receiving a Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service from then-President Barack Obama after his agency achieved one of the largest annual deportation totals in U.S. history. Homan argued that many of the enforcement actions celebrated by Democrats a decade ago are now described by those same political figures as authoritarian or even fascist.
The recognition itself is not in dispute. Homan noted that Obama signed the award after immigration authorities removed approximately 409,000 people during a single year of enforcement operations.
