The latest complaint adds to a growing list of disputes tied to the high-profile development, with multiple subcontractors previously alleging they were left battling payment issues after performing work on the massive Chicago project. Now, one business owner says the financial damage became so severe that he had no choice but to shut down the company he spent years building.
Mike Owen, the owner of Adamson Plumbing Contractors in Chicago, says the Obama Presidential Center project devastated his business financially. According to Owen, the losses became so overwhelming that the company ceased operations, laid off dozens of workers, and moved what remained of its business into his home while attorneys pursue legal action.
