Couy Griffin, a co-founder of “Cowboys for Trump,” triumphed after being declared not guilty on Wednesday in a southern New Mexico court after being convicted for breaking the law.
After a two-day trial in Alamogordo, where disgraced former Otero County commissioner Lawrence Griffin had served until his exile on January 6, 2021, for the incursion into the U.S. Capitol the previous year, a shocking verdict from twelve jurors was delivered: one of guilt or innocence that would determine Griffin’s future.

Before his case, amazingly, resulted in dismissal, Griffin was facing up to a year in jail and a hefty $1,000 fine.
A ray of hope was offered for the persecuted Griffin when the jury finally delivered their decision following a grueling nine-hour deliberation. His recent string of bad luck, which included being denied election to office by the New Mexico Supreme Court in February, was ended by the ruling.
Griffin was thrilled to have his case heard by individuals he could consider peers; he felt more in control than ever. He may now look forward with confidence knowing that justice can be served in his community!

Griffin declined to expose Details for Trump’s anonymous contributors in an effort to uphold free speech because he feared that if their identities were made public, they may be singled out and threatened.
Griffin is accused of using Cowboys for Trump as a sneaky technique to link political activism with requests for financial support while avoiding registration and transparency requirements that apply to such committees. Prosecutors made a strong case to the jury on Wednesday.

The jury wasn’t persuaded by Jonathan Miller’s brave defense that Griffin was just an equestrian trying to do the right thing. Cowboys for Trump had been registered as a corporation, and he had informed funders of this fact, but that wasn’t enough to convince them to support him.
Miller, a zealous public defender, contended that Griffin wanted to unite people around unshakeable beliefs and national pride without enabling government regulation of nonprofits to restrict those liberties.
“He shouldn’t be punished for showing his pride in his country,” Miller said.
Griffin’s legal representative claimed that Texas campaign finance officials unfairly singled out Cowboys for Trump, suggesting a political bias.
The Democratic Secretary of State for New Mexico, Maggie Toulouse Oliver, has not been afraid to criticize President Trump for his efforts to cast doubt on election results. She has given him the ironic moniker “election denier-in-chief” to highlight how he still refuses to acknowledge the results of elections across the country.
Griffin has steadfastly upheld his group’s independence since 2020 in the face of tremendous opposition, even taking the matter to court! His legal defense resulted in a compelling appeal to the 10th District Court of Appeals, but it finally failed.
An arbitration ruling in favor of Oliver’s office against Cowboys for Trump was made public in June 2020. Griffin ultimately disregarded all of the criteria, breaking the terms of the agreement, and the organization was ordered to register as a political committee, produce regular expenditure and contribution reports, and pay a significant fine of close to $8,000.
Griffin, a trespasser on the Capitol on January 6, was found guilty of his crime in federal court and was sentenced accordingly for the petty offense.
He created history last year by being the first official to be held accountable for taking part in the political unrest on Capitol Hill, which led to his expulsion from public office.
Griffin, a former county commissioner, teamed up with other Republicans to challenge the primary election results of June 2022 because they lacked confidence in the electoral procedures and institutions.
The board reluctantly approved the election results in a 2-1 decision, notwithstanding one opposing view. Griffin voted against approving the results of this momentous occasion.
