A White House fact sheet obtained by Fox News reinforces Trump’s position: “President Trump is committed to safeguarding Federal public benefits for American citizens who are truly in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans.”
Illegal immigration has drained U.S. taxpayers by an estimated $451 billion over the past three years, fueled by the Biden-Harris administration’s lax border policies. The sheer number of migrants flooding across the border has shattered records, with some estimates placing the total number of illegal immigrants in the country as high as 11 million.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that Trump’s executive order could save taxpayers at least $182 billion annually. According to their findings, the U.S. currently spends this amount to house, feed, and provide services for 20 million illegal immigrants and their dependents. Of that sum, approximately $66.5 billion comes from federal funding, while the rest is a burden on state and local governments.
Despite federal law barring illegal immigrants from accessing welfare benefits since the passage of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, loopholes have allowed many to receive assistance. Over time, illegal immigrants can gain “qualified” status for various welfare programs, and after five years, they are fully eligible for government benefits.
The Trump White House did not hold back in assigning blame for the crisis. “The Biden Administration gave billions in taxpayer dollars to left-wing groups that facilitated mass illegal migration and provided legal services to challenge deportation orders,” the fact sheet states.
