The University of Nebraska is finding itself in the eye of a firestorm after a scandalous performance mocking the Catholic Mass sparked outrage from one of the country’s largest Catholic watchdog groups.

A doctoral student’s so-called “graduation recital” turned into an all-out assault on Catholic traditions, and now the Catholic League is turning up the heat—bringing in the university’s accrediting body and demanding real accountability.
A Blasphemous Display Disguised as ‘Art’
A student at the University of Nebraska staged a theatrical “Mass of Perpetual Indulgence” for his final doctoral project—an event that took place at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. But this wasn’t a celebration of music or culture.
It was a drag performance meant to parody and degrade the most sacred parts of the Catholic faith. The act featured a drag queen dancing near the altar while mimicking sections of the Catholic Mass, including the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei.
