In a bold move to streamline federal operations, President Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk to lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Tasked with identifying and eliminating $2 trillion in federal spending, Musk has swiftly initiated significant changes, igniting a firestorm of controversy among Democrats.
Within days of his appointment, Musk announced the cancellation of 104 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) contracts, amounting to over $1 billion in savings. He further escalated his reform agenda by gaining access to the Treasury Department’s payment system and shutting down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Musk revealed that his team had “discovered, among other things, that payment approval officers at Treasury were instructed always to approve payments, even to known fraudulent or terrorist groups.”

These aggressive actions have provoked a vehement response from Democratic lawmakers. Several Congressional Democrats staged a protest outside the Treasury Department, expressing their outrage over Musk’s access to the payment system. New Jersey Representative LaMonica McIver addressed the crowd, stating, “We want you to know, as mentioned, we came here for an oversight visit in this building behind us, and they told us that we had to have an appointment for an oversight visit. So let’s let them know loud and clear to let us in – let us in!”
