Corey Heim’s night at Martinsville Speedway took a chaotic turn Saturday after a dramatic late-model race ended with a confrontation that spilled beyond the racetrack — and into the shadow of one of NASCAR’s most famous hot dog stands.
The NASCAR Cup Series driver was competing in the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 when contact late in the event helped ignite a chain reaction that continued long after the checkered flag flew.
Heim, who has already picked up Cup Series victories at San Diego and Indianapolis this season, found himself at the center of the controversy after an incident involving Treyten Lapcevich.
The two drivers made contact toward the end of the race, with Lapcevich spinning as Heim’s car climbed over the front of his machine. The on-track incident immediately became one of the major talking points surrounding the finish.
