In a move that has stunned Washington and sparked outrage among Democrats, billionaire investor and Trump ally Timothy Mellon has been revealed as the mysterious donor who gifted $130 million to the U.S. government to ensure military paychecks keep flowing during the ongoing government shutdown.
The news broke after weeks of speculation about the identity of the anonymous donor President Trump had praised but refused to name publicly. According to the New York Times, Mellon — the grandson of former Treasury Secretary Andrew W. Mellon — quietly stepped up when Congress failed to act, donating his own fortune to ensure service members could still receive their pay.
