Musk’s Free Speech Stand: Advertisers Rally!

The owner of X, Elon Musk, announces some good news: advertisers are returning in droves to the site. Some had already threatened to remove it because of one of Musk’s contentious postings.

Elon Musk speaks at the Rome Atreju political event, which is organized by the Brothers of Italy party, which is led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. He talks about the current fallout after his reply to a post that claimed “Jewish organizations” encouraged anti-White attitudes.

Musk added that he was referring to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which demands harsh punishments for antisemitism and labels dozens of symbols and comments as “hateful” or “racist,” including “it’s OK to be white,” the “OK” hand sign, various numerals, “white lives matter,” and more. Notwithstanding the apologies, some sponsors declared they were quitting the site over claims made by Media Matters that X was placing advertisements next to pornographic material, something the company has promised never to do.

“I think X will be fine. And we are actually already seeing advertisers return to X. So I guess they were, I don’t know, upset with something I said or something, I don’t know,” When questioned about the boycott, Musk stated. “But they, you know, advertisers I think are, the brand advertisers are a little, they’re always worried about their brand and, you know, maybe, I think, maybe a bit more than they should be. But I think it’s a short-term issue.”

“Like I said, the advertisers, they sometimes get upset, but then they usually calm down and they return to advertising.”

Musk was questioned later in the conversation about his support of free speech and how it influenced his choice to buy the business, which was still known as Twitter, in 2022. “Free speech is only meaningful if you allow people you don’t like to say things you don’t like. So, that’s how you know it’s working,” the tech mogul said.

“Because once you start to censor people you don’t like, saying things you don’t like, it’s only a matter of time before that censorship turns on you,” he continued.

Musk emphasized that the freedom of speech is essential to the survival of Western civilisation. Regarding his choice to buy Twitter, he remarked, “Profits don’t matter if civilization collapses.”
