Musk Just Made His Most Controversial Crypto Move Yet

In a significant shift, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced Tuesday that he’s pulling back from the front lines of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the Trump-era initiative aimed at cutting federal waste. Musk, a close ally of President Trump, has led the charge to slash bureaucratic bloat and root out corruption—but now says his role is nearly complete.

“My time allocation to DOGE will drop significantly,” Musk said during Tesla’s earnings call, noting the work is “mostly done.” Beginning in May, he plans to scale back, but he isn’t stepping away entirely. “I’ll have to continue doing it for I think the remainder of the President’s term just to make sure the waste and fraud that we stopped does not come roaring back, which it will do if it has the chance,” Musk told Axios. He added that he’ll dedicate a couple of days per week to the cause “for as long as the President would like me to do so.”

Musk’s work with DOGE hasn’t come without consequence. The Tesla CEO admitted there’s been “some blowback” against the company due to his association with President Trump, and acknowledged “a few bumps in the road.” Still, he remains confident in Tesla’s future.
