Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) wants to continue her successful campaign of denouncing leftist “Squad” members for allegedly making antisemitic statements. She recently declared that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) will be on her list of targets.
Speaking on the House floor, Greene charged that the Muslim representative from Minnesota had broken her oath of office by putting Somalia ahead of the US and downplaying the misery that Hamas causes for Israelis.

“Whereas elected members of Congress take an oath to bear true faith and allegiance to the United States without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion. Whereas Republican Ilhan Omar took an oath of allegiance to the United States upon becoming a citizen declaring, ‘I absolutely and entirely renounce and adjure all allegiance to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen,” Greene gave a reading from a podium.

“Whereas on January 7th, 2024, Representative Omar gave remarks at an event in Minneapolis where she made treasonous statements. Whereas Representative Omar said she has spoken to many Somalians who asked her to intercede for the Somali government by pressuring the United States government into certain actions,” she continued.
This week, Rep. Omar came under more scrutiny when comments she made in the past triggered a contentious discussion over her loyalties and whether or not she put the Somali people above Americans.
The Squad member, who is an unrecognized state in the Horn of Africa with land deals with surrounding governments, spoke passionately about her work in Congress to support Somalians and against the official recognition of Somaliland in a translated video. Rep. Omar stressed the U.S.’s role in opposing other ethnicities, aiding ethnic Somalians in their fight to retake their nation from an untrustworthy administration, and preventing Somaliland from being recognized.
“A couple of days ago, we heard some people who call themselves Somalis (Somaliland) or claim to be Somalis have signed a [memorandum of understanding] with Ethiopia on access to the sea… Many Somalians have personally called me to encourage me to speak to the U.S. government and help Somalia,” she said.
“The U.S. government will only do what Somalians in the U.S. tell them to do,” she continued. “They must do what we want and nothing else… The U.S. is a country where one of your daughters (myself) is in Congress to represent your interests.”
“Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system… Together we will protect the interests of Somalia.”
Omar has made a number of contentious remarks in the past, and his latest gaffes have drawn attention from mainstream media and condemnation from conservative media. She expressed annoyance in October to a female reporter who kept asking her about justice for those killed in Hamas’s October 7 strike on Israel.

“How many more killings is enough for you?” Omar shouted. “Is it a thousand more? Two thousand more? Three thousand? How many more Palestinians would make you happy if they died? Would you be fine if all of the people of Gaza were gone?”
“Would that make you happy? Would that be the thing that makes you proud?” She continued before rushing out.
Rep. Ilhan Omar is the target of Greene’s retaliation for her effective condemnation of Squad member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) in November.
“Whereas these statements by Representative Omar clearly violate the oath she took as an elected member of Congress to protect and defend the United STATES Constitution,” she emphasized.
After it reaches House leadership, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will decide when to hold a vote on the resolution.
