A shocking decision out of Maryland has once again placed public safety on the backburner as a federal judge appointed by Barack Obama ordered the release of an MS-13 gang member who is currently facing serious criminal charges. The move has ignited outrage among conservatives who see this as yet another example of activist judges bending over backwards for violent criminals while Americans pay the price.
US District Judge Paula Xinis ruled that MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia must be freed immediately, claiming the federal government had no lawful basis to hold him. Her order came swiftly and without hesitation, setting off alarm bells about how far left-wing judges are willing to go to shield dangerous individuals from accountability.
Judge Xinis insisted that Garcia has repeatedly been held unlawfully, writing, “Since Abrego Garcia’s return from wrongful detention in El Salvador, he has been re-detained, again without lawful authority.” She went even further, declaring, “For this reason, the Court will GRANT Abrego Garcia’s Petition for immediate release from ICE custody.”
Her ruling instantly freed a man whose background reads like a laundry list of criminal behavior — someone immigration authorities have long considered a threat to communities across several states.
