“This one time, I was on a flight, and this guy came up to me and said, ‘Do you know what this country’s done for you?’” Anderson recounted. “And I was like, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?’”

The situation quickly escalated as the man grew increasingly aggressive, glaring at her throughout the flight. His anger became so severe that flight attendants had to intervene to ensure her safety.

“This stewardess had to handcuff him to the chair because he was trying to attack me,” Anderson revealed.

The incident, she later learned, stemmed from a bizarre case of mistaken identity.

Anderson explained that the enraged passenger believed she was a member of the Dixie Chicks, the country music group that sparked nationwide controversy in 2003. “He thought I was a Dixie Chick,” Anderson said. “Remember that whole Dixie Chick thing? I almost got killed on a plane. I was scared to fly after that for a little bit.”

The terrifying flight likely occurred after the infamous backlash against the Dixie Chicks, now known as The Chicks. During a London concert in 2003, lead singer Natalie Maines condemned the looming Iraq War and criticized then-President George W. Bush.

“Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas,” Maines told the audience.

Her remarks ignited a political firestorm. Fans boycotted the group, radio stations stopped playing their music, and fellow country artists publicly criticized them. Though Maines issued an apology, she later retracted it, saying in 2006 that she stood by her original comments.

Anderson’s resemblance to the controversial musicians nearly placed her in harm’s way. The passenger, consumed by misplaced outrage, seemed to believe he was exacting justice. Fortunately, the quick actions of the flight crew prevented the situation from spiraling further out of control.

For Anderson, the ordeal served as a sobering reminder of the darker side of fame. While her time on Baywatch brought her global adoration, it also exposed her to moments of danger, including this life-threatening encounter.

In the end, the experience left Anderson shaken and hesitant to board planes for some time. As she shared her story, it became clear that even the world’s most recognizable faces are not immune to the perils of mistaken identity.
