Merrick Garland Held in Contempt: Arrest Imminent?

In a tightly contested decision, the U.S. House of Representatives has voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. The vote, which ended at 216-207, saw only one Republican breaking ranks to side with the Democrats. This move comes as a significant blow to Garland, who previously was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court by former President Barack Obama and currently serves under President Joe Biden.

The lone Republican, Rep. Dave Joyce of Ohio, aligned with Democrats, opposing the contempt citation against AG Garland. This decision comes amid growing frustrations within the GOP, who argue that their counterparts are not being held accountable for alleged wrongdoings, particularly in light of recent legal actions against former President Donald Trump.
