A Kentucky woman accused of turning one of America’s most solemn war memorials into the backdrop for a social-media spectacle is now facing serious federal charges after authorities say she recorded the vandalism herself, encouraged people to spread the footage online, and later tearfully surrendered.
Melissa L. Farris, 41, who reportedly uses the name Melissa Lovewell on Facebook, is accused of defacing the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.
Rather than attempting to conceal what she was doing, Farris allegedly broadcast the incident.
