California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters thought her political clout would grant her open-door access to a secure federal facility — but instead, she received a hard reality check that’s making waves across the country.
On Sunday, Waters attempted to barge into the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles. She showed up unannounced, demanding to see SEIU California President David Huerta, who had been arrested just two days earlier during a series of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.
But instead of being welcomed in with open arms, Waters had the door slammed right in her face — quite literally.
With cameras rolling, Waters approached the federal facility acting as if her congressional title gave her a VIP pass. “I’m here to check on David Huerta,” she announced at the door, seemingly convinced that was all she needed to say.
But the officer on duty was having none of it. In a blunt and unapologetic move, he shut the door on the 86-year-old Congresswoman. The awkward moment, caught on video, quickly went viral online and sparked widespread reactions.
