“I am providing notice that I have authorized the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Department of the Navy, to order to active duty members and units of the Selected Reserve and appropriately designated Individual Ready Reserve members, without the consent of the member concerned, pursuant to 12304(a) of title 10, United States Code,” The White House issued a statement.

“Reserve mobilizations under this authorization are not to exceed 3,000 total members at any one time, of whom not more than 450 may be members of the Individual Ready Reserve. These Reserve Component forces are to augment the active forces for Operation Atlantic Resolve to enhance the United States’ ability to sustain its heightened level of presence and operations in support of United States European Command,” Then the statement went on.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden took strong action by issuing an executive order. This order will provide the Pentagon the authority to send reserve soldiers to Europe in support of our unwavering commitment to the NATO mission there.
An order from the White House allowing the Pentagon to send up to 3,000 reserve soldiers to Europe to strengthen their forces has been made public. In reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, this choice has been made.
According to the Pentagon, there are now more troops on the continent—about 20,000 more personnel. This increase occurred in reaction to efforts by Russian President Vladimir Putin to annex the nation. As a result, there are currently more than 100,000 American troops deployed in Europe.
“It’s unlocking additional forces for use in support of this operation,” Brigadier General Pat Ryder, the Pentagon’s senior spokesperson, told reporters over the phone on Thursday.
“This [executive order] reaffirms the unwavering support and commitment to defend NATO’s eastern flank in the wake of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war on Ukraine,” Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims II of the Army remarked.

As part of its continuous commitment to NATO’s collective security, the U.S. European Command is prepared to use this newly acquired ability, according to a statement made today by Eucom spokesperson Navy Capt. Bill Speaks.
“These authorities will ensure long-term resilience in Eucom’s continued heightened level of presence and operations. This will not change current force-posture levels in Europe,” Speaks said.
