FOX News Media confirmed the split in a statement but offered no detailed explanation for why its relationship with the veteran financial journalist had ended.
“Effective today, Maria Bartiromo is no longer with FOX News Media.”
The network added:
“We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”
FOX is already reshuffling the programs Bartiromo previously anchored.
“Mornings with Maria,” which aired from 6 to 9 a.m. Eastern on FOX Business Network, is being replaced by “Mornings with FOX Business,” with a rotating lineup of anchors.
Her weekly FOX Business program, “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street,” is likewise being reworked, while FOX News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures” will temporarily be hosted by former Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz.
But the network’s brief announcement has done little to quiet speculation surrounding what happened behind the scenes.
According to reporting attributed to Puck News journalist Dylan Byers, Bartiromo’s departure allegedly followed a disagreement involving a proposed story concerning China and claims surrounding the 2020 presidential election.
The allegation is that FOX declined to allow Bartiromo to move forward with the story.
Bartiromo then reportedly contacted the White House about the network’s decision.
According to the account now circulating, FOX subsequently learned about that communication and terminated its relationship with her.
Those allegations have not been established by FOX’s public statement, which did not provide a reason for Bartiromo’s departure.
Mike Nellis highlighted separate reporting from Status and offered a sharply critical interpretation of the alleged circumstances.
“Status is reporting Fox fired Maria Bartiromo after she leaked internal texts to the White House showing the network had told staff to stop amplifying Trump’s latest election conspiracy theories. Trump has so thoroughly captured the right-wing media ecosystem that its biggest stars now see themselves as his informants first and journalists never.”
That version of events, if substantiated, would add an extraordinary dimension to Bartiromo’s sudden exit.
It would mean that the departure of one of FOX’s most recognizable personalities involved not simply a programming or contract dispute, but an internal fight over editorial decisions and communication with the Trump White House.
Bartiromo has long distinguished herself from many mainstream television journalists through her willingness to aggressively question government officials and cover stories embraced by conservative audiences.
Her Sunday program became particularly influential in Republican political circles, routinely featuring leading lawmakers, administration officials, and other major figures from Washington.
That makes the lack of a detailed explanation from FOX even more noticeable.
Bartiromo was not a minor contributor disappearing during a routine programming overhaul. She was one of the most recognizable faces on FOX Business and had occupied prominent positions across the FOX media operation for more than a decade.
The controversy has also reached the Trump family.
Eric Trump publicly described Bartiromo’s departure as a major loss for FOX, reflecting the close relationship she developed with an audience heavily overlapping with President Trump’s political base.
Former Bartiromo producer Breanna Morello also publicly offered supportive words for her former boss following news of the departure.
Meanwhile, another development could signal that the story is far from finished: Bartiromo has reportedly retained a prominent attorney.
Exactly what prompted that move — and whether it relates directly to her FOX departure — remains unclear.
But the combination of her sudden exit, the network’s sparse explanation, reports of a behind-the-scenes editorial confrontation, and news that legal counsel has entered the picture is certain to fuel further scrutiny.
For now, FOX has publicly confirmed only that Bartiromo is gone and that her programs are being reorganized.
