The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) recently made headlines with its announcement that it will not endorse any candidate in the upcoming presidential election. This decision, a surprising shift for a union that ardently supported Joe Biden in 2020, follows a similar stance taken by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The move reflects a growing trend of major labor unions opting out of public endorsements in the 2024 race.
The IAFF, which represents tens of thousands of firefighters across the country, confirmed that its executive board made the decision after members voted by a narrow margin of just 1.2 percentage points. The vote ultimately determined that the union would not endorse a candidate in the race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
