Major Lawsuit Just Hit California Elections

A high-stakes legal battle is unfolding in California that could reignite one of the most controversial debates in American politics: the accuracy of voter rolls.

A newly filed federal lawsuit alleges that state election officials have allowed hundreds of thousands of inactive voter registrations to remain on California’s voter lists for years beyond what federal law permits. The case is now placing intense scrutiny on the state’s election administration as Californians prepare for another election cycle.

At the center of the challenge is Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner, a Republican candidate seeking to become California’s next secretary of state. Wagner has joined forces with the American Independent Party of California in a lawsuit targeting current Secretary of State Shirley Weber.

The lawsuit, supported by conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, argues that California has failed to properly maintain voter registration records and remove inactive voters after the legally required time period.

According to court filings, the numbers involved are staggering.
