Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appears to be deeply concerned over President Donald Trump’s push to absorb Canada into the United States as the “51st state.” While many in the media and political circles initially brushed off Trump’s remarks as a joke, Trudeau’s reaction suggests that he believes otherwise.
During a closed-door meeting with Canadian business and labor leaders, Trudeau was caught on a hot mic discussing Trump’s ambitions. According to a report from CBC, Trudeau warned that the former president’s statements about annexing Canada should not be taken lightly.

“Mr. Trump has it in mind that the easiest way to do it is absorbing our country and it is a real thing,” Trudeau was overheard saying before the audio cut out. Members of the press had already been asked to leave the meeting, but reporters from CBC and the Toronto Star managed to capture portions of the conversation.
