Last in the Boys Race, 39th in the Girls

A high school cross-country competition in Washington state has reignited a fierce debate over transgender athletes in girls’ sports, with frustrated parents accusing education officials of putting inclusion policies ahead of competitive fairness.

The controversy erupted Saturday at the Nike Hole in the Wall XC Invitational, where a Camas High School athlete who had previously competed on the boys’ junior varsity team participated in the girls’ elite division.

The athlete finished 39th among 135 competitors in the girls’ 5K race.
