Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton just landed a major legal victory in his ongoing battle against what he calls “radical” left-wing operatives working to undermine the state’s Republican-led legislature.
On Friday, a Texas judge sided with Paxton’s office, issuing a temporary restraining order against former Democrat gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke and his political group, Powered by People. The ruling halts their fundraising and financial support for Democrat lawmakers who fled Texas in a coordinated effort to block GOP legislation — including a critical redrawing of congressional maps.
Democrat Lawmakers Flee to Stop GOP Agenda
The dispute stems from a highly controversial move by Texas House Democrats, who skipped the state and refused to return to Austin in order to prevent the Republican majority from reaching a quorum. Without at least two-thirds of members present, the legislature cannot vote on key bills.
