At the center of the latest arrest is Chengxuan Han, a PhD student from—you guessed it—Wuhan. She was taken into custody at Detroit Metro Airport on June 8, 2025, after allegedly mailing packages laced with biological roundworm material to contacts at a University of Michigan lab.
Han had already been denied entry into the U.S. twice before finally getting through in June. Not exactly a coincidence.
Just days earlier, two other Chinese nationals were also arrested—Yunqing Jian and Zunyong Liu—for sneaking in a fungus so dangerous it’s been labeled a potential “agroterrorism weapon.” The fungus, Fusarium graminearum, is known to destroy crops and poison both animals and humans. It’s no exaggeration to say it could wipe out billions in agriculture.
Not Just Students—Operatives?
Patel confirmed what many feared: this is no random incident. “This case is a sobering reminder that the CCP is working around the clock to deploy operatives and researchers to infiltrate American institutions and target our food supply,” he warned.
In fact, these weren’t just rogue scientists. Court records show they were highly organized, well-funded, and fully aware of the laws they were breaking.
One of them, Jian, reportedly received direct support from the Chinese government for similar work back in China—and was open about her loyalty to the CCP. This was state-sponsored biological subversion hiding under the mask of academia.
Even worse, all three targeted the same U.S. university—the University of Michigan—turning its labs into unwilling battlegrounds in a silent war most Americans don’t even realize we’re fighting.
Hidden Samples, Fake Textbooks, and Deleted Data
The plot reads like a spy novel. According to court filings, Jian instructed her Chinese contact to cut pieces of filter paper containing the fungus into thin strips and stash them inside a thick textbook before shipping.
Han, for her part, reportedly scrubbed her devices just three days before entering the U.S.—a move that screams premeditation.
Meanwhile, Liu initially denied everything at the border before fessing up. He admitted hiding the biological material because “he knew there were restrictions on the importation of the materials.” Translation: he knew it was illegal and did it anyway.
Trump Admin’s No-Nonsense Response
While these smuggling attempts began under the Biden administration, the arrests didn’t happen until after Trump re-entered the White House and appointed Kash Patel as FBI Director.
And the shift in tone is crystal clear.
Patel isn’t pulling punches, and neither is U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon. “The alleged actions of these Chinese nationals – including a loyal member of the Chinese Communist Party – are of the gravest national security concerns,” Gorgon said.
CBP’s Marty Raybon also highlighted the magnitude: “These charges are indicative of CBP’s critical role in protecting the American people from biological threats that could devastate our agricultural economy.”
FBI Special Agent Cheyvoryea Gibson added, “It severely compromises the integrity of our nation’s research institutions.”
University of Michigan on the Defensive
Caught in the middle, the University of Michigan is scrambling to contain the fallout. Their statement was blunt: “We strongly condemn any actions that seek to cause harm, threaten national security or undermine the university’s critical public mission.”
They insist no Chinese government funding was involved in the accused individuals’ research at the university.
But the damage is done. America’s research labs have been caught off guard—and the enemy didn’t need a missile to strike. They just needed a plane ticket and a petri dish.
A Call to Action
This isn’t just a headline—it’s a wake-up call.
The threat of Chinese biological warfare isn’t just theoretical. It’s already here, quietly eating away at the integrity of our borders, our schools, and now, our food.
Thanks to Kash Patel and the Trump administration’s no-nonsense approach to foreign threats, the truth is finally coming to light.
But this is only the beginning. The question now is—how deep does this rabbit hole go? And how many more are already inside the gates?
America can no longer afford to look the other way. The CCP’s war on our homeland has gone biological—and the battlefield is right under our noses.
