An alleged ISIS-inspired terrorist plot targeting one of America’s busiest shopping destinations has been disrupted by federal authorities, raising fresh concerns about extremist recruitment in Minnesota and the threat of homegrown terrorism.
At the center of the investigation is 18-year-old Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, a Minnesota resident accused of preparing an attack on the Mall of America during a cultural celebration expected to attract large crowds.
According to the account of the federal investigation, Mohamud allegedly selected October 24 as the date for his planned assault, intending to strike during a Hmong Arts Celebration.
