The charges weren’t minor. FBI Director Kash Patel laid out the list on social media, which included assault on police officers, fugitive apprehensions, possession of child sex abuse material, illegal firearms possession, drug trafficking, and even assault on an officer with a Subway sandwich. Three illegal firearms were seized during the operation as well.
A Pattern of Escalation
This wasn’t a one-off success. Federal coordination has turned nightly raids into a new normal. Arrest totals have jumped consistently — from 23 on Monday, to 43 on Tuesday, to 45 on Wednesday.
Leavitt explained that this is no coincidence. The coordinated federal task force is driving the results: “These happen night after night because of the efforts of this federal task force that are working alongside the Metropolitan Police Department who agree with this effort.”
No More “Sanctuary City” Politics
Former ICE director and current border czar Tom Homan was blunt when describing the change under Trump’s federal takeover.
“I think D.C. under federal control is not going to be a sanctuary city,” Homan said on Fox News. “We’re working with the police hand-in-hand, and when we encounter a criminal illegal alien, they will be turned over to ICE.”
For years, Democrat leadership in Washington protected illegal aliens from deportation. Trump ended that policy overnight. Federal agencies like ICE and Border Patrol now work directly with local law enforcement — and criminals are paying the price.
Residents Agree, Media Doesn’t
While the media dismisses the crackdown, Washington residents are seeing the difference. A May poll from The Washington Post revealed that 65% of locals believe crime is a “very serious” or “extremely serious” problem.
Leavitt drove the point home during her interview: “In fact, the Metropolitan Police Department Union stated that President Trump is right to do this, that crime has been totally out of control in the city.”
She added that the real divide is between journalists and the people who live in D.C.: “The residents of Washington, maybe not the journalists, because they don’t want to admit President Trump is right who live here, but the residents agree.”
The Data Doesn’t Lie
The press continues to cherry-pick local statistics to downplay the problem. But FBI data tells a different story, showing violent crime has dropped only 10% since 2024 — far less than what local officials claim.
Homan shredded the media’s spin with a personal challenge: “I’ve been in law enforcement for 40 years. I won’t transit D.C. without a gun. And any of these reporters that said the crime rate is way down and it’s safer than they say, I dare any of them: walk the streets of D.C. after dark.”
His blunt assessment of their motives summed it up: “It’s the same people who said the border was secure as you and I watched thousands of people cross the border every day . . . they think we’re idiots.”
Trump’s Federal Authority Delivers
The surge in arrests proves that Trump’s decision to invoke Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act — placing the Metropolitan Police under federal control — is working exactly as intended.
With FBI, ATF, ICE, Border Patrol, Secret Service, and National Guard units all working together, the federal task force now has the authority and manpower to crush crime in the capital.
Each night brings more arrests, more seized weapons, and more criminals removed from the streets. Washington residents are finally seeing results after years of failed Democrat policies.
While the media spins excuses, the numbers speak for themselves. Trump promised to reclaim D.C. from lawlessness, and under his watch, that promise is being fulfilled in real time.
