The problem was obvious to anyone who looked.
During normal business hours, the building sat empty. The windows were blacked out. There were no children, no staff, and no activity of any kind.
Even the sign outside could not spell the word “learning” correctly.
The situation became even more serious after FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that federal investigators have dramatically increased resources dedicated to Minnesota. Patel stated the Bureau believes “this is just the tip of a very large iceberg.”
Federal prosecutors have already charged more than 90 individuals connected to the Feeding Our Future scandal, a $250 million scheme where criminals claimed to feed children during the pandemic while instead pocketing the money.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson warned the damage may be far worse, stating that when all investigations are complete, total welfare fraud in Minnesota could exceed $1 billion.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed federal agents are now conducting “a massive investigation on childcare and other rampant fraud” and are going door to door at suspected fraud locations.
Kari Lake Demands Accountability and Handcuffs
Kari Lake reacted with fury after watching Shirley’s footage during an interview with conservative commentator David Harris Jr.
“I think it’s criminal. I personally think it’s criminal,” Harris said. “I don’t think there’s any possibility that Tim Walz did not know what was going on with all this fraud happening in all these daycare centers. Him or Ilhan Omar.”
Lake took it even further.
“I’m gonna take it a step further. I think this is treasonous. This is an act against the American people. This is knowingly. I believe this is happening knowingly,” Lake stated.
She argued that the fraud is deeply connected to Democrat political power in Minnesota.
“I believe this is part of how you win elections in Minnesota, is you get the huge block of people who are coming here and defrauding the American people and the goodwill of the American people,” Lake explained.
Her frustration boiled over as she addressed the lack of arrests.
“I am so fed up right now. I wish, I wish that you could feel the anger that I have inside of me after seeing this story and realizing the goodwill of the American people is being taken advantage of, and there’s not one damn person with handcuffs on,” Lake said.
Lake also pointed out the glaring double standard.
“They dragged Roger Stone out of his house, they raided Mar a Lago, they attacked President Trump,” Lake noted. “When are we going to see some effing handcuffs on some effing criminals in this country?”
Tim Walz’s Own Words Come Back to Haunt Him
As outrage spreads, Republicans resurfaced footage from the October 2024 Vice Presidential debate where Governor Tim Walz bragged about Minnesota’s childcare system.
“We’re ranked first in the nation on childcare,” Walz boasted. “We worked to make it easier to get into that business.”
Those comments now look disastrous.
Republicans argue Walz’s policies created an open door for criminals to exploit taxpayer funded programs with little oversight.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer demanded answers in a December 29 letter.
“These criminals did this hand in hand with your administration,” Emmer wrote. “I pray you were not complicit in allowing these centers to survive.”
Emmer highlighted multiple suspicious cases, including Mako Childcare receiving $5 million while operating out of an empty building and another facility pulling in over $3 million without proper documentation.
Five Republican state legislators have now called for Walz’s resignation, saying fraud is the top issue voters raise and accountability is nowhere to be found.
Ilhan Omar’s Financial Explosion Raises New Questions
The scandal has also placed renewed focus on Representative Ilhan Omar, whose district includes Minneapolis.
Financial disclosures show Omar’s net worth skyrocketing from negative $45,000 in 2019 to as much as $30 million in 2025.
The gains stem largely from her husband Tim Mynett’s companies, including Rose Lake Capital and eSt Cru Wines, which jumped from modest valuations to multi million dollar figures in just one year.
Critics question how such dramatic growth occurred so quickly.
Emmer previously labeled Omar “one of the most duplicitous con artists I’ve ever seen” and pointed to her involvement in the Feeding Our Future program at the heart of the fraud case.
Federal counterterrorism sources have also reported that millions in stolen funds were transferred overseas through hawala networks, with money allegedly reaching Al Shabaab.
Trump administration officials are now investigating whether welfare fraud dollars helped finance terrorism abroad.
Americans Want Justice
Public anger continues to grow as the investigation expands.
As Kari Lake bluntly stated, “The American people have had it up to here, and we want some people locked up, prosecuted behind bars for the rest of their lives. We’re sick and tired of it.”
For many Americans, the question is no longer whether fraud happened.
It is who knew, who protected it, and when the handcuffs finally come out.
