But beneath that carefully crafted persona lies a story that many believe Harris would rather keep hidden. As she continues to rise in the Democratic Party, a closer look reveals a much more complicated—and, at times, troubling—reality about her time as a prosecutor and her role in law enforcement.
Kamala Harris began her political career as the District Attorney of San Francisco before ascending to become California’s Attorney General. While her roots are firmly planted in the progressive stronghold of San Francisco, her rise to national prominence required her to reshape her image. When Harris entered the race for the presidency, her campaign strategists worked to rebrand her from a far-left San Francisco Democrat into a candidate who could appeal to moderates. To do this, they emphasized her tenure as a prosecutor, touting her record of going after drug cartels and cracking down on crime.

But for many familiar with Harris’ career, these claims ring hollow. Former Justice Department special agent Cary Cavalieri is one such critic, stating, “Kamala Harris was the original defunder of the police.”
