Wisconsin, a key battleground state, is once again at the forefront of a tightly contested presidential race. A recent poll indicates that former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are running neck and neck among registered voters, although Harris appears to be losing ground since Biden’s departure from the race.
The political landscape has been tumultuous in recent months. President Joe Biden’s unexpected exit from the race in July left Democrats rallying behind Harris. Adding to the drama, Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, and the GOP’s national convention saw Ohio Senator JD Vance emerge as Trump’s vice-presidential pick. On Tuesday, Harris, now the Democratic frontrunner, selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Despite the dramatic changes, the latest poll, which surveyed 877 registered voters between July 24 and August 1, shows a political landscape similar to June. Before Biden stepped down, he and Trump were evenly matched at 50% among registered voters. With Harris now leading the Democratic ticket, she has lost a point, with Trump slightly ahead at 50% to 49%. However, among likely voters, Harris narrowly leads Trump, 50% to 49%.
