Just In: Trump, Putin Plot Endgame for Ukraine

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a significant phone conversation Monday that focused on two of the world’s most volatile conflicts: the escalating crisis involving Iran and ongoing efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to an end.

The call, confirmed by officials in Moscow, marked the first publicly known conversation between the two leaders since fighting tied to Iran erupted. The discussion lasted about an hour and covered potential diplomatic paths to reduce tensions while also addressing broader geopolitical concerns.

According to the Kremlin, the exchange was serious and direct. Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, briefed Russian reporters afterward, saying the leaders spoke candidly about the unfolding situation.

Ushakov described the call as “frank” and “businesslike.”

During the conversation, Putin reportedly presented several proposals aimed at resolving the conflict involving Iran. While the details of those proposals were not disclosed publicly, the outreach signals that Moscow may be attempting to position itself as a potential mediator in the growing crisis.

Russia has long maintained close relations with Tehran, a relationship that has increasingly drawn scrutiny from Washington. U.S. officials have voiced concerns that the Kremlin could provide intelligence or logistical support to Iran as tensions with the United States escalate.
