Sources close to the decision informed CNN of Trump’s plans, although an official announcement has yet to be made. Noem’s expected nomination signals Trump’s continued focus on tough immigration enforcement, a cornerstone of his platform during his previous term.
Noem would be taking charge of a massive DHS structure with a $60 billion budget and hundreds of thousands of personnel, ranging from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Secret Service. While she awaits official confirmation, the move aligns with Trump’s latest reshuffling of key personnel, placing immigration hardliners in top advisory positions.
