Authorities in Delaware announced Tuesday that Bill Stevenson, the former husband of First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, has been criminally charged in connection with the death of his current wife, Linda Stevenson. The shocking development comes weeks after Linda Stevenson was found unresponsive inside the couple’s home late last year.
According to law enforcement officials, New Castle County police arrested the 77-year-old Stevenson on Monday following an extended investigation into the December death. The case was presented to a grand jury, which ultimately returned an indictment charging Stevenson with murder.
Police confirmed that Stevenson has been charged with first-degree murder and was remanded to custody at the Howard Young Correctional Institution. Authorities stated that Stevenson was unable to post the $500,000 bail set by the court.
The incident that sparked the investigation occurred on December 28, when officers were dispatched to the Stevenson residence around 11:00 p.m. following a report of a possible domestic disturbance. The home is located in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Delaware.
