Liz Cheney, former Wyoming congresswoman and a prominent figure in the January 6 Committee, is now facing severe criticism following revelations that a critical piece of evidence showcased during the investigation may be false. The controversy centers around testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. Hutchinson testified that she authored a handwritten note detailing a proposed statement for then-President Donald Trump to make during the Capitol breach. However, recent developments cast serious doubt on her claims.
A handwriting expert, hired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), has concluded that the handwriting on the note matches that of Eric Herschmann, a former Trump White House lawyer, not Hutchinson’s as she had previously testified. This revelation has led to accusations of possible misconduct within the January 6 Committee, where Cheney played a central role.

The handwriting analysis, conducted as part of an oversight investigation led by Rep. Loudermilk, contradicts a key element of Hutchinson’s sworn testimony. Hutchinson had claimed under oath that she wrote the note at Meadows’ direction, but the handwriting expert’s findings suggest otherwise. According to Loudermilk, the expert’s conclusion that the handwriting is actually Herschmann’s raises serious concerns about the validity of Hutchinson’s testimony and the committee’s handling of this evidence.
